Zirconium is a naturally hard, lustrous, silvery-grey coloured metal – known since Biblical times as Zircon (Zargun in Arabic). Zircon is mined in Australia, South Africa, USA, Russia, and Brazil.
Not to be confused with Cubic Zirconia which is a synthetic gemstone – a man-made, lab-created stone simulating a diamond.
Black Zirconium is achieved by oxidation, whereby the zirconium is exposed to extreme heat for several hours. It reacts with the air to create a hard, black coating. This black colour is permanent and will not fade, tarnish, or change colour.
A ductile and malleable metal with a melting point of 1855 degrees Celsius. Zirconium is highly resistant to corrosion by alkalis, acids, salt water and other agents. Making it ideally suited to use in pumps, valves, and heat exchangers. It is also non-toxic making it a great metal to use in dental implants, crowns, and fillings. So, if you are prone to allergies and sensitive skin, this is the way to go!
Durable, hypo-allergenic, and lightweight, it will not tarnish or react to body chemistry or chemicals. It is used in many chemical industries and nuclear reactors due to its toughness and chemical stability. An extraordinarily strong and long-lasting metal – ideal for demanding projects.
